The R.W. Norton Art Gallery offers a number of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can contribute to this institution which has made fine art available free to the public for more than forty years by welcoming and informing the public, leading tour groups, assisting the administrative staff, and performing for our visitors. Volunteering at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery is a privilege and can be a rewarding and enriching experience.
The Norton offers an extensive variety of tours. Each docent trains for several of these and then leads family, community, and school groups on our core tours and/or participates in our special "First Saturday" tour program with special tours given the first Saturday of each month. Volunteer docents should be enthusiastic about working with people, especially children, and have public speaking skills.
The Norton is instituting a program of performance which will include storytelling opportunities with young children and musical performances throughout the Gallery at various times of year in association with special events. This provides an opportunity for those interested in honing their performance skills with an eager audience in a public setting. Volunteers will need to audition for our Tour and Special Event Coordinator.
The Norton would like docents to make a one-year commitment. Special arrangements will be made as needed for administrative and performance volunteers. All volunteers will receive a Certificate of Recognition, listing their hours of service to the Gallery.
