Scholar Level:
At some point in the future, the Norton will add the category of "Scholar" for those who qualify to use the primary materials available in our Rare and Antiquarian Book Collection and archives, but we cannot currently accomodate research in those areas.
Reader Level:
The Reader level is for adults who want to use contemporary and secondary works from the general stacks. Once you download the application form, it must be filled out and returned to the Norton by fax or postal service prior to your first visit. The application will be reviewed and a background check performed. Upon acceptance, the Norton will send you a letter containing a Reader's Permit and listing the date and time when the materials you have requested will be available. You must bring your Reader's Permit and a valid photo ID with you when you come. Any minors who wish to use the research library must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who has a valid Reader's Permit. On the agreed upon date and time, the research materials requested will be brought to the Reading Room by a member of the museum staff; no more than ten requests are allowed per person per day.
Future request will require only that you sign up online with the name on your Reader's Permit and the materials requested; however, both your Reader's Permit and photo ID must be presented to the guard at each visit.
Reader's Permits are good for one year from the time of issuance; patrons may re-apply at the end of each year for a new permit.
