Born in Boston, the son of John and Sybil Edwards, Thomas learned the
silversmithing trade from his father, and became a freeman in New York in
1731. He married Sarah Burr of Charleston, Massachusetts, in 1723, and
served as a captain of the Artillery Company at Boston in 1753. An
advertisement in the Boston News-Letter for May 8, 1746, concerning the
settlement of his father's estate notes "The Goldsmith's business is
carried on at the Shop of the deceased, as usual, by his Son Thomas
Edwards."
