David, John
(1736-1798)
Collection: American Collection
Specialty: Silver
The son of Peter and Jeanne Dupuy David, John worked in his father's shop
on Second Street and must have carried on the business after his father's
death in 1755. In 1722 he advertised in Benjamin Franklin's Pennsylvania
Gazette at Second Street, corner of Chestnut, near Draw Bridge. A son,
John David, Jr., was also a silversmith in Philadelphia, but did not work
with his father, except perhaps as an apprentice.
