The most celebrated of the great 17th century Dutch landscape painters, Jacob Isaackszoon van Ruisdael was born in Haarlem in the Netherlands where he received his early artistic training from his father, Isaak van Ruysdael (1599 1677), and uncle, the famous Salomon van Ruysdael (ca. 1600/03 1670).
