Born in Washington D.C. to an art gallery owner, Benson Moore trained as a framer and art restorer before attending the Corcoran School of Art where he studied with three leading late 19th century landscape artists. While working as a photo-engraver, Moore built a career as a landscape painter, first in the Barbizon style but later turning more impressionistic. He was one of the founding members of the Washington Landscape Club as well as a leading wildlife painter, producing thousands of illustrations of animals, including some for the Smithsonian.
