Many 19th century painters were influenced by the development of photography. This is especially true of Hippolyte Sebron. Born in Caudebec, France, Sebron began his artistic career studying under and painting with Louis Daguerre (1787-1851), a former scene painter for the opera who had turned to the production of dioramas. Dioramas were large, long canvases which unrolled on stage with a light behind them, producing a primitive moving picture.
