Ellenshaw loved Ireland and painted a whole series based on its landscape. They call it the "Emerald Isle" and it certainly deserves the distinction, with its many shades of green. The lovely yellow of the gorse dots the countryside, climbing along the stone walls. Though the walls may look like they were always there, most of them were built during the time of the Famine.
