Son of t he silversmith Bartholomew Le Roux, Charles probably learned the trade under his father's tutorship. He was admitted as a freeman in 1724 and was master of the Albany silversmith Jacob Ten Eyck from 1719 until 1726. Le Roux served as an assistant alderman of the East Ward from 1735 to 1738. The Common Council of New York commissioned Le Roux to make and engrave presentation pieces and in 1735 he engraved the seal of the mayoralty for New York City....

His father trained him in metal-working techniques and the boy quickly put them together with his own natural talent for drawing and began creating small sculptures.
