First Saturday Tour
The Spring Walking Tour
02:00 pm - 03:00 pm

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
~Dorothy Frances Gurney, "Garden Thoughts"

Back by popular demand, this guided tour of the Norton Gardens will first meet in the lobby, then proceed on the sidewalk around the south side of the building to discover the flora, fauna, and statues awaiting us on our 40 acre spread.

Besides discussing the azaleas and permanent plantings in depth, we will offer insight into our new xeroscape garden, the recently installed bronze statues on the grounds, the annual plantings, upcoming projects, and tips and tricks of keeping the Norton looking at its best (hint: it requires a lot of water, mostly in the form of perspiration!).

Will a rainy day wash-out the First Saturday Tour? Of course not! Join us for an indoor Rainy Day Tour exploring the symbolism and mythology of Easter, spring, and those dreaded April Showers.

On the first Saturday of each month, the Norton offers a special tour at 2 p.m. All tours meet in the lobby. No reservation is required, though groups of 10 or more are asked to call ahead. This tour, like all tours and admission to the Norton, is free of charge.
