About
The Norton’s permanent collection is quite extensive, including the works of over 100 artists... from Renaissance Old Masters, to modernist iconoclasts and contemporary neo-realists.
In addition, our museum possesses hundreds of sculptures ranging from miniatures and maquettes to life-size pieces in media including bronze, silver, marble, and wood.
Among the oldest works in the Norton are pieces from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Persia and six tapestries dating from the 16th century which once graced the palace of a King of France.
Decorative arts are also featured throughout the museum, including works in porcelain, pressed and blown glass, and 18th - 19th century silver.

“Nat’s Clock” by Dominick Navarra
New Orleans, Louisiana

.
About the Artist: My work reflects the colors, sounds, and smells I encounter everyday in New Orleans. I create with wood and metal, trying to utilize as many found materials as possible. I see value in repurposing objects and breathing new life into the discarded pieces. My work is a playful kaleidoscope that manifests as: toys, sculptures, books and paintings. I am deeply influenced by folk art, comic books, animation, and all things whimsical. I strive to spread a little bit of joy with each piece I create.
The museum is closed today. So, our diminutive dinos are helping organize the archives! 🦖🖼

“Off Royal” by Michael Torma

He was awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree from Rockhurst University in Kansas City. He also studied briefly at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris. His works in both oil and watercolor have won multiple juried awards, including Grand Prizes at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum and elsewhere. He has shown at both the Steve Jarrett and Creason`s Fine Arts galleries in New Orleans.
He is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and the Southwest Watercolor Society. He is a master artist of the Hoover Watercolor Society.
Commissioned works, whether drawings or paintings, in oil or watercolor - as well as his gallery pieces, are to be found in the homes of collectors throughout the South.
About the Piece: While Shreveporters, my wife and I visit New Orleans every so often, in my case usually looking for the `right` New Orleans moment. Luckily, in this instance, I found a little side street `Off Royal.` The scene presented itself as painted, with the exception that the musician was originally sketched in front of Cafe Du Monde. I enjoy working in both oil and watercolor, about equally, though time constraints push me more frequently to watercolor these days. “Generational Wealth.” by Bridget Winder
Astoria, New York

.
About the Artist: Bridget is a stage and screen performer and self-taught artist living in New York City. She has a degree in Musical Theatre from the University of Alabama. She does not use projectors or other artificial measuring tools when creating art. Instead, she uses her eyes to balance the proportions.
In the midst of a dark season in the summer of 2012, her sister Amanda encouraged her to sketch her feelings. So, she purchased a sketch book, and "LateNightSketching." was born. In 2014, sketching quickly led to painting when her father unexpectedly passed away. In 2017, she discovered a way to merge her two loves—performing and art—by creating a series called “Singing-and-Painting.” The series consists of a split-screen video which displays her singing an original or currently compelling song on one side and a time-lapse video of her painting an original piece on the other side.
To this day, Bridget continues to paint the visions she receives and uses art as an outlet for her daily healing and freedom. Here is her own advice she lives by and encourages others to as well: “We all have gifts to discover waiting to breathe. If you haven`t found yours yet, relentlessly search. If you have, run hard and fast with them. Create more than you consume.”
About the Piece: This piece is of a photo I took of my 90-year-old Grandmother’s hands. I’ve been wanting to encapsulate it with my paint and brushes for a while and the opportune moment arrived to create a love letter to New Orleans, so I seized it!! Mère recently shared with me fond memories of her time as a little girl in the city in the 1940s. She and her cousins would go to the drive-in cafes (yes, like a Sonic) to get beignets and “café au lait!”
The piece captures “generational wealth”. From the richness of family recipes proudly passed down over 9 generations, to spending priceless time with those who came before us.
Let`s all take a minute to take it all in...🏔
